The BenQ EW3270U is the ideal 4K HDR monitor for high-quality home entertainment, whether you’re looking for a movie-watching experience, a good display for your Xbox One X or PS4 Pro, or just a fantastic 4K HDR PC monitor for all-round use.
The BenQ EW3270U monitor is based on a VA panel with true 10-bit color support covering 95% of the DCI-P3 color space (100% Rec709 and 100% sRGB), which together with its superior 3,000:1 static contrast ratio will give you vibrant and intense colors and deep, true black shades.
Enabling HDR (High Dynamic Range) can further enhance the image quality, if the content you are watching is HDR10-compatible.
Whether it’s a console game, a Computer game or an HDR-supporting video, your screen will be enhanced with a more lifelike image with improved contrast and gamut of colors.
However, it is important to note that the picture will not be nearly as eye-catching as it is on true HDR displays with much higher luminance capabilities, due to the rather low 300-nit peak brightness of the BenQ EW3270U HDR monitor.
Thanks to the high pixel density which amounts to ~140 PPI (Pixels per Inch) on this 31.5-inch display, the 4K Ultra HDR resolution provides vivid details and plenty of screen real estate available.
The viewing angles are 178 degrees horizontally and vertically but in contrast, some minor shifts are expected here and there when viewing the screen from certain off-angles.
With a response time of 4ms, motion blur and ghosting are noticeable in fast-paced games but it is perfectly acceptable for casual gaming.
You can increase the response time speed by using the AMA (Advanced Motion Accelerator) option in the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu, but this can also introduce over-shooting or inverse ghosting.
The input lag for the BenQ EW3270U is ~13ms which is really good and does not cause any significant delay during gaming.
In addition, the BenQ EW3270U features AMD FreeSync technology that enables you to synchronize the frame rate of an AMD FreeSync-compatible graphics card or an Xbox One console to refresh rate of the monitor.
By doing so, within the dynamic refresh rate range there will be no screen tearing and stuttering. The FreeSync frequency of BenQ EW3270U is 40-60Hz / FPS, for both DisplayPort and HDMI.
Update: FreeSync now operates on a compatible NVIDIA G-SYNC graphics card without any problems.
On the move, the monitor features the Brightness Intelligence Plus technology, which consists of integrated sensors that can automatically adjust the perfect brightness and color temperature to the optimum viewing experience according to the ambient light.
Use of the hotkey labeled ‘B.I. + HDR ‘enables / disables B.I.+ sensors and HDR function quickly. In addition, you can use the ‘HDR-emulate mode’ to simulate HDR for the content which otherwise doesn’t support HDR.
BenQ is known for its advanced eye-care technology when it comes to displays and as such the EW3270U does not use PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to regulate brightness, it is therefore free of flickers.
In addition , the low blue light filter (Multimedia, Web Surfing, Office, and Reading) has four different levels that will ensure an enjoyable nighttime viewing experience.
Design & Connectivity
There are plenty of ports available when it comes to connectivity, including two HDMI 2.0, a DisplayPort 1.4, and a USB-C that allows compatible devices to transfer data, audio , and video simultaneously – all with one cable.
Although the display is 100 x 100 holes compatible with VESA install, it is tilt-only to -5, 20 degrees.
There are also two 2W integrated speakers and a headphones jack available.
Both HDMI display connectors support HDCP 2.2, so you will also be able to watch content from streaming services such as Netflix in 4K resolution.
Price & Similar Monitors
The price of the BenQ EW3270U is $699 MSRP which is really expensive but it’s worth the money if you need its premium features like USB-C, HDR and built-in sensors.
