ASUS ROG Phone 2 Specification.
The ASUS ROG Phone 2 launched in China today and there is a price tag unlike the global launch yesterday.
The first Snapdragon 855 + worldwide phone is available in China in four variants. A Tencent Elite version is available which has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and is priced at 3499 yen (~$509). There’s also a Standard edition which also includes Tencent Games on the back but has 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage and a price tag of 5999 yen (~$872). Yes, that is a huge price bump.
The third version is the Extreme Edition priced at 7999 yen (~1163 dollars). The RAM and storage for this version have not been specified, but with some added features and or accessories it will most likely be 12 GB and 512 GB, respectively. ASUS says it will be available this version in the fourth quarter of the year.
The last version is the e-Sports Armor Editon. This version comes in a custom briefcase with a bunch of accessories including the 30W charger which it seems you have to purchase separately if you are getting the base model. The e-Sports Armor Edition has a price tag of ¥12,999 (~$1890).
At the moment, only the first two are available for pre-order on JD.com. Pre-order runs from today until July 30th while the first sale will begin on July 31.
The ASUS ROG Phone 2 features an AMOLED 6.59-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit HDR, Gorilla Glass 6 security (also on the back), 1ms response time, 49ms touch latency (lowest on any handset), and 240Hz touch sampling rate.
It has front-facing stereo speakers with DTS: X 7.1 surround sound, NXP 9874 Smart Amplifier, 24MP front-facing camera, and a fingerprint scanner in-display. A primary Sony IMX586 48MP camera sits with a super wide-angle 13MP camera on the rear. It has also improved tactile triggers on the side with better haptic feedback.
The ROG Phone 2 packages a 6000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support, USB-PD, and 4 + Quick Charge support. It has the support for Dual-SIM, NFC, FM Radio, and an audio jack. There is also a liquid cooling system with a 3D vapor chamber, called GameCool II. The famous Aura logo is on the back as well, and can also be customized.
At the bottom is a USB Type-C port, which supports USB 2.0 transfer, Quick Charge 3.0 and USB Power Delivery 3.0. Thanks to DisplayPort 1.4, Quick Charge 3.0, Quick Charge 4.0, and USB Power Delivery 3.0, the side-mounted USB-C port supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 transfer speeds (up to 10GBps), 4 K video output.
Next to the side USB-C port is the proprietary port for pairing accessories such as the TwinView Dock II, the Mobile Desktop Dock and the AeroActive Cooler II. ASUS did not reveal the price of those accessories.
