If you’re looking for an affordable gaming monitor that won’t break your budget but fits very well even with a budget-friendly PC setup, the ASUS VG245H is worth checking out. It offers a 75Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and AMD FreeSync technology for fast-paced, smooth gameplay. It has additional gaming features, plus a cool design with full ergonomic support.
Where to buy:
The ASUS VG245H monitor’s picture quality is decent but you could get an IPS display with more vivid colours and wider viewing angles for the same amount of money.
However, the ASUS VG245H TN panel gives you only 1ms response time which other panels like IPS and VA lack.
The ASUS VG245HE contrast is decent. Blacks are not very deep in dark rooms and they look grayish but you shouldn’t have any issue in brighter rooms.
For the response time speed efficiency, you sacrifice colour quality (IPS), contrast ratio (VA), and viewing angles. The ASUS VG245H has no local dimming feature.
This monitor is a gaming monitor and as such, it works exceptionally well. It has a fast response time, low input lag and supports FreeSync that will help you avoid tearing in very complex graphics games.
Although the response time of 1ms effectively removes motion blur, the input lag of just 10ms of the ASUS VG245H guarantees quick gameplay without any pause between your actions and the result on the computer.
TN panels make the image shift in colour and contrast when viewing the panel from distorted angles at a 170/160-degree viewing angle.
The horizontal and vertical viewing angles are bad.
The viewing angles do not affect you as long as you are seated directly in front of the monitor. You can also still tilt or swivel the screen depending on where you are.
This ASUS VG245HE has a wide variety of colours. It occupies almost all of the colour space of s.RBG and about 70 percent of the colour space of Adobe RBG.
The display supports a true 8-bit depth of 16.7 million colours, but calibration is required for maximum picture quality. For most uses, you should have no issue with this monitor’s colours but editing colours in the Adobe RGB colour space is not enough.
ASUS VG245H Calibration
For the best gameplay experience and overall picture quality, we recommend the following ASUS VG245H settings.
The Racing Mode is the best out of the box picture mode and it has very low white balance dE and colour dE values, and a Gamma of 2.23 that is very similar to our target of 2.2.
Using the Racing preset as closest to the optimal adaptations. Disable Blue Light Filter, SmartView, Eco Mode, and VividPixel.
While the above features decrease the picture quality without providing much in return, you should actually keep TraceFree function below 60 points.
Now, adjust the following settings accordingly:
- Brightness: 30 – 35
- Contrast: 70
- Sharpness: 50
Color Temperature: User Mode (Red: 100, Green: 91, Blue: 92)
You can look online for ASUS VG245H ICC profiles.

Design & Connectivity
The ASUS VG245H is well built. It is fitted with a solid stand that supports the monitor well, providing excellent ergonomic adjustments up to 130 mm, 90° turn, 90° swivel, 100 x 100 VESA brace, and -5, 33° tilt to allow the display to be positioned almost anywhere.
Connector ports include two HDMI 1.4 ports, a VGA, an audio headset line-out, and a 2x2W built-in speaker audio line-in.
The stand is made from plastic and it feels very stable. It offers good display support, and there is a cable management hole in the stand.
The two HDMI ports allow you to simultaneously connect a PC and a gaming console and simply change the input source in the OSD menu when you want to switch; no cables need to be reconnected.
