When we think of emergency services, we usually think of paramedics and police officers. But other emergency services play an essential role in our communities. Health emergency lifeline programs are one of these services.
These services can support and assist in managing mental health symptoms and emotions. In addition to the direct services HELP offers, the program also offers referrals to community resources.
This can help connect clients to resources they may not be aware of or may not have access to. Referrals to community resources can provide clients with additional support and assistance in managing their mental health evaluation, mental health care, counselling, group therapy, and navigating the system.
The program offers a variety of services that can provide support and assistance.

Corktown Health’s commitment to the LGBTQ community is evident in its wide range of services. Recent advances in medical care have improved the prognosis for many people living with HIV/AIDS, and Corktown Health has been at the forefront of providing these services to their patients.
When it was first established in 1986 as Health Emergency Lifeline Programs (HELP), the organization served as an AIDS service provider at a period when the availability of HIV/AIDS therapy was very restricted. HELP established Corktown Health Center in 2017, the state of Michigan’s first nonprofit medical facility devoted to serving the needs of LGBTQ patients and their families.
In addition to medical care, Corktown Health provides mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and counselling to their patients. They also have a robust community outreach program, including HIV/AIDS education and prevention services to at-risk populations.
Corktown Health’s dedication to the LGBTQ community is evident in its wide range of services and its commitment to providing high-quality, affirming health care.
