Another important feature for the HP Envy printer is the HP Smart App driver and HP Photo Creations.

The printer driver for the HP Smart Software runs on Linux, macOS, Android and iOS. However, its usefulness extends beyond merely communicating between computing devices and printers, depending on the HP printer you are using. For example, it allows you to use a camera from your smartphone to scan documents to the printer or cloud.

In addition, the Smart App performs the optical character recognition (OCR) function of translating scanned pages into editable text, a functionality that often requires a separate software.

While the HP Photo Creation is a photo editor comparable to Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint Editor, with a collection of templates like business card design, calendars, photobook layouts, and greeting cards.

Ink Cartridge

Envy 5055 printer ink is expensive if you’re not signed up for the instant ink program. The instant ink program gives you a free one-month cartridge and 15 pages. You’ll then pay $1 for an extra 10 pages. There is also a free 300-page trial, with free ink, for 3 months. If you buy ink without the program, it’s expensive, around $32 per cartridge.

An advantage is that the HP Envy can print with only one ink cartridge and it uses HP 65 black and tricolour cartridges.

HP 65 black and tricolour cartridges works with: HP DeskJet 2622, 2625, 2635, 2636, 2652, 2655, 3720, 3722, 3752, 3755, 3758, 5025, 5055. HP ENVY 5010, 5012, 5020, 5052, 5030, 5032, 5034, 5055. HP AMP 100, 105, 120, 125, 130.

You don’t need to sign up for the HP instant ink program, if you don’t print more than 60 pages a month then it’s the same as purchasing 1 cartridge for your instant ink cost a year. But if you print a lot, then you may end up with more ink cartridges. When the ink cartridges included run out.  HP instant ink program makes your life easy.

Print Speed & Quality

With a high print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, the HP Envy 5055 printer can print everything from documents and emails to vibrant and vivid photos.

The HP Envy 5055 print speed is slow and is able to print two-sided pages, while the flatbed scanner can scan and copy documents and photos up to letter size.

Generally for home printers like the Envy 5055 speed is not something you should be worried about, but if you have major print jobs or a lot of people using the same printer, this becomes a problem.

The Envy 5055 has been designed for performance, enabling you to print up to 10 pages per minute for black colour and 7 pages per minute for colour. Pages per minute PPM defines how quickly the paper can move through your printer. The ENVY 5055 uses standard A4 paper, which has a maximum sheet size of 8.5 x 11.7 inches. This is ideal for a number of stationary for example envelopes, photo paper, and standard paper size.

The photo printing output of the HP ENVY 5055 is good. There are plenty of fine details and vibrant colours.

For smartphones. The Envy 5055 supports both Android Google Cloud Print and iOS AirPrint. You do not have to use the HP smart app. The HP Smart app will help you keep an eye on the amount of ink, print images from your social media pages and make the 5055 easy to use otherwise.
