This is coming after three quarters in a row the Korean giant had lost the top spot to OnePlus.
According to the statistical analytics firm, the underlying takeover for the Galaxy S10 arrangement drove Samsung to the number one position in the premium segment.
OnePlus came close second as its seasonal cycle. Nevertheless, in the first quarter of 2019, the OnePlus 6 T retains its status as the best-selling premium smartphone, a position it has retained since its launch last year.
In Q1 2019, India’s top three premium brands including Samsung, OnePlus, and Apple accounted for 90 percent of the segment’s shipment. Other smartphone brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo share 10 percent of the remaining market share.
However, due to their excessive pricing, Apple is still struggling to curtail its decline. The company may start manufacturing iPhones in India in order to save 20 percent import duty on its devices, the report added.
“The success of the Galaxy S10 series and OnePlus 6T highlights the trend of an expanding premium segment in India,” says Karn Chauhan, Research Analyst, Mobile Devices at Counterpoint.
He also added, “Users buying their second or third smartphone are already considering upgrading to the premium segment. Another reason for the growth in the premium segment is a plethora of offers and installment plans available.”
