Sony 2019 X950G 4K HDR TV Review

Sony 2019 X950G 4K HDR LCD TV (XBR55X950G) (XBR65X950G) (XBR75X950G) (XBR85X950G)

The X950G is basically the successor to Sony 2018 X900F. The Sony X950G is an impressive, high-quality 4k TV. Due to the high native contrast ratio and full array of local dimming support, it can display deep blacks in a dark room.

It has excellent motion handling, delivers great HDR performance, the input lag is very low, and makes an excellent choice for gamers that are looking for a very responsive TV. The Sony XBR55X950G has an average uniform thickness.

  • Great motion handling
  • Exceptional color rendering for standard and HDR content
  • Strong design
  • Amazing contrast

  • When viewed from an angle, the image deteriorates
  • Expensive

The Sony X950G has a very nice structure that looks like the Sony X900F. Sony X950G stand is large, made with plastic and metal and provides the TV with adequate support and at the back of the legs is hollow, which enables you to conceal the cables when the TV is on its stand. The TV inputs are on the side, while some are facing downwards and, when the TV is wall mounted, may be difficult to reach.

The X950 G has thin borders and average uniform thickness that, if wall-mounted, won’t stick out much. The build quality is very nice. The television is robust and has no gaps or loose ends. It feels very sturdy and durable.

Sony X950G Picture Quality

With deep blacks in a dark room, the Sony X950 G has great picture quality and bright HDR highlights. The Sony X950 G, when viewed in a dark room, has decent local dimming. This Sony 4K HDR TV is intended for vivid viewing on a large screen. For notable clarity, each picture is upscaled closer to real 4K quality with 4K X-RealityTM PRO. Images are sharpened and refined in real time, revealing additional detail. Sony X950 G X-Motion Clarity technology keeps fast action smooth and clear. In order to minimize blur, moving images are controlled precisely.

Sonys Full-Array Local Dimming and Boosting technology dynamically shifts the light concentrations in display segments based on the content resulting in a significant increase in contrast and brightness. The overall gray uniformity of the Sony XBR55X950 G is good, comparable to the X900F. Add Dynamic Range PRO 6x in X-tended, which provides the screen 6 times the contrasting range of a standard LED-edge lit TV. By balancing the light output correctly across the darker scenes of the screen, the images become darker and brighter. The uniformity is significantly better in darker scenes and you won’t have any problems with it.

4K Ultra HD resolution and HDR video content combine to create a dazzling color and contrast to everything you watch while maintaining a much wider range of brightness compared to other video formats. IMAX Enhanced makes films feel completely real. With striking highlights of deeper blackness and vibrant colors, Dolby Vision brings scenes to life. Whichever format you choose, Sony TVs delivers picture-perfect experience that creates an interactive and entertaining film experience.

In most common resolutions, the Sony X950G has an excellent low input lag. It supports most standard resolutions and refreshes rates without flaws, except for 1440p @ 120Hz, which could displease most owners of Xbox One S/X

At 480p: The quality of digital content input at 480p looks great, with no apparent optimization or oversharpening.

At 720p: The quality of digital content input at 720p looks good and displays without any problems.

At 1080p: The quality of digital content input at 1080p for Blu-rays or older game console also looks great.

At 4k: The quality of native content at 4k UHD input displays perfectly.

Sony X950G Speakers

At the top of the television, you will find speakers that help with sound positioning. Dialog is clear and comprehensible. Using dedicated speakers or soundbars is recommended for better sound.

Sony X950G Smart Features

The Sony X950G’s Smart features are awesome and provide the perfect Android TV experience. The TV is running Android TV Oreo 8.0, and on the X950G interface, the Android 8.0 is organized better and easier to use than previous versions.
