TECNO Camon 11 Review

Tecno Camon 11

The Tecno Camon 11 (CAMON11) smartphone was released in 2018. Following Camon CM and Camon X series, the TECNO Camon 11 was the third Camon device to be launched in the Camon series.

One of the key selling points for the Tecno Camon 11 was the front camera. It competed with Infinix Note 5, Hot 6X, Huawei Y7 Prime 2018, OPPO A3s, Xiaomi Redmi 6A when it launched in 2018.

  • 2” 720p HD display in a 19:9 aspect ratio

The design of the Tecno Camon 11 is decent and easy to carry in hand. The body is made of plastic and was released in three colour option (Aqua Blue, Midnight Black, and Bordeaux Red). The Camon 11 comes with a 6.2-inch display, ~ 81.3% screen to body ratio and has a 19:9 aspect ratio.

On the left, is the dual-nano SIM and a microSD slot tray. The dual SIM option allows you to use multiple Sims. It will enable you to use two services at the same time without having to carry two mobile phones while the microSD slot supports memory card up to 128 GB. Memory cards have more storage capacity for your phone. So more songs, photos and videos can be stored.

On the right are the volume rocker and power buttons.

The top of the device is kept plain.

At the bottom, you’ll find a 3.5mm headphone jack. Next to the headphone jack is a mic, a micro USB v2.0 port, and the speaker.

It has a dual-camera at the back with LED flash and a fingerprint scanner at the bottom TECNO brand logo.

The back of the Camon 11 is glossy.

The Camon 11 comes with a 6.2-inch Color IPS LCD screen (16M) display and has a notch. The notch can is hidden by navigating to the settings section. The screen has a resolution of 720 x 1500 pixels and a 268 PPI density. It has a 19:9 aspect ratio and a ~ 81.3% screen-to-body ratio.

The Tecno Camon 11 has a responsive touch screen that’s capacitive and MultiTouch — giving you a more interactive experience.

  • Touch Yes, with Multitouch
  • Screen Size 2 inches, 720 x 1500 pixels

The TECNO Camon 11 has three cameras, Dual 13MP, with Autofocus and 5MP cameras on the back with LED flash and one 16MP selfie camera on the front. The Dual rear cameras are useful in enhancing specific effects like blur, zoom and wide-angle photos.

Some of the camera features include Quad-dual-tone, HDR, and Panorama.

The Night Scene, Portrait Bokeh mode, Automatic Scene Detection, Document mode, Sky mode, Backlight mode, sports mode, night portrait etc. are some of the features of the selfie camera.

The camera at the back supports Full HD video recording 1080p @ 30 fps FHD while the front camera supports video calling.

Selfies taken on the front camera look good, but not perfect.

The phone has AI cameras to help you select the right settings when you take a photo, but this is the only benefit of the AI cameras I saw on Camon 11.

The Tecno Camon 11 comes with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, and a memory card slot expandable up to 128 GB. Memory cards offer more storage capacity to your phone.

  • RAM 4 GB

  • Card Slot Yes, up to 128 GB

Tecno Camon 11 smartphone runs on Android v8.1 (Oreo) operating system with HiOS 4.1 and is powered 2 GHz, Quad-Core Processor and has a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It runs on the Mediatek Helio A22 Chipset.

The Tecno Camon 11 performed well without any problems while multi-tasking.

For gamers, it runs most high definition games smoothly. You won’t notice a lot of a lag when playing heavy graphics games and comes with few games pre-installed.

You’ll find a lot of bloatware on HiOS. HiOS, a modified version of Tecno Mobile’s mobile operating system, allows a variety of application functions without rooting the mobile device.

The HiOS makes the user experience frustrating, and you keep getting popup ads on the lock screen and home screen.

The best way to get rid of the ads is to uninstall or disable the bloatware then install a new custom launcher.

(Settings > Apps and notifications > Default Apps > Home app).

  • OS Android v8.1 (Oreo)
  • Chipset Mediatek Helio A22
  • CPU 2 GHz, Quad-Core Processor
  • GPU PowerVR GE8320

Battery Life

The Tecno Camon 11 comes with a non-removable 3750mAh Li-ion battery without fast charging. The battery life on the Camon 11 is outstanding. It will take you throughout the day whether surfing the web, gaming on it, or just surfing the web.

There’s no wireless charging

  • Non-Removable Battery
  • Size 3750 mAh, Li-ion Battery

Camon 11 has all of the connectivity options that a standard smartphone includes.

GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G, VoLTE (Dual Stand-By), Wifi (with wifi-hotspot), Bluetooth, USB, microUSB v2.0, USB Features, & USB Charging.

Should You Buy The Tecno Camon 11 in 2019?

For a phone released in 2018, the Tecno Camon 11 still stands out and competes with some phones released this year when compared to a newer phone model in terms of battery life and selfie camera.
